Ryan Trecartin Wins Guggenheim Prize For New Artist

Photo: NY Mag - click to enlargeOur fave gay artist/filmmaker, Ryan Trecartin, took home the Calvin Klein Collection prize last night at the first annual Guggenheim Art Awards. We knew he would, and it doesn't hurt that he's already been around long enough to have appeared in the 2006 Whitney Biennial, so he's not all that "new," except maybe in art world years -- which are like the opposite of dog years: ten years equal one.
Also of note, rock and roll slut Cynthia Plaster Caster, who cast molds of a great many musicians' penises over the years, won the special Rob Pruitt Award.
For good measure, 'cause we can't get enough, here's the 'Bead Store' scene from Trecartin's film I-BE AREA.

What a waste of time and money. Makes me sad that this sort of crap is getting money.
