Love Parade Turns Deadly in Germany

Photo: APLoveparade 2010 in Duisburg, Germany turned really ugly today as 15 people were killed in a stampede/trampling following a mass panic inside a tunnel. Way too many people showed up, and police had already tried to set up a barricade preventing more people from joining the over 100,000-strong crowd. The entrance to the festival grounds appears to have been through this tunnel, and though police got on megaphones and tried to turn people away, more kept jumping fences and streaming in, resulting a packed tunnel that got so ridiculously tight with people, that they started pushing and falling over. Six men and nine women were killed as the crowd basically mowed over them, all for a little techno music.

Yeah, we've never liked crowds.

UPDATE: Organizers have announced that LoveParade is permanently canceled out of respect for the dead and injured.
