Hold the Phone: Todd Solondz Not Actually Gay
August 3, 2010 at 11:10 AM
OUT just did an interview with filmmaker Todd Solondz (Welcome to the Dollhouse, Happiness, Life During Wartime) and in the process they end up clarifying a misunderstanding we've had for years. Todd Solondz is not, in fact, gay! Instead, they just call him "exceptionally ethnic" and "hyper-Semitic" and they note throughout the interview all the times he slips into a Zero Mostel impression while speaking.
As for speaking to a gay audience, he says he always knew he kind of was, as far as telling stories about marginalized characters etc. But yeah, wow. He doesn't like dick.

Why did you ever assume he was gay?
I never got that impression. His movies are obsessed with women and his resentments/insecurities toward them.
They're also dripping with homophobia via the gay molestation and fear of being raped by males.
Very nerdy, neurotic, Jewish, brooding and heterosexual.
