'OUT' Magazine Lays Off Staff, May Continue Publishing, Sort Of
April 18, 2012 at 1:49 PM
One of said poor choices.More sad news from the sad sad world of gay magazine publishing: OUT, one of the sole surviving non-porn publications we magazine-reading fags have left, just laid off its entire editorial staff. Allegedly, editor-in-chief Aaron Hicklin intends to re-hire everyone as a freelancer for a new content firm he's launching called Grand Editorial, and supposedly that outfit will continue to supply OUT with content, so that Here! Networks, its parent company, still has something to publish. But after the folding of The Sadvocate back in 2009 (it's lived on, sort of, as a quarterly insert in OUT), pretty much all we have left now is Details and Entertainment Weekly. Oh, but the gays don't all want to be JUST GAY anymore, and even Logo's smelling that trend these days. At least OUT was good enough to admit that they've occasionally made some poor editorial choices over the years. And anyway, we'll pretend to miss it if it really goes away.
