R.I.P. Erik Rhodes, One of Gay Porn's Greats

Gay porn lost an icon today at the tender age of 30. Erik Rhodes, born James Elliot Naughtin, died of a heart attack at his home in New York. The Sword has a touching tribute here, and here, and we are honestly, truly sad to see him go. He was a fascinating, fallible, and deeply honest human being who tried to find some small salvation through that honesty, interacting with fans and blogging online throughout his career. He was a truly compelling character in an industry full of idiots. And he was really hot, if you're into those big muscley dudes. And basically, steroids and other drugs did him in. Let him be a cautionary tale. He was one of the last true 'stars' too, and this feels truly like the end of an era. And jesus. 30. 

Bruce LaBruce Continues Gay Zombie Fascination With Porn-Zombie Hyrbid Flick, 'L.A. Zombie'

Speaking of Halloween costumes to avoid, filmmaker Bruce LaBruce has teamed up with a group of established gay porn stars to make a bloody gay porn zombie picture called L.A. Zombie that is sure to disgust and delight in equal measure the few hundred Brooklyn and San Francisco gays who see it. LaBruce, whose gay teen zombie picture Otto; or Up With Dead People was a small cult hit, cast tattoo-headed Frenchman Francois Sagat in the lead role of a buff gay zombie who eats and fucks his way across Los Angeles. Maybe he's supposed to be, like, a grown-up version of Otto who's now a sex-crazed thirtysomething gay zombie who does too many drugs and has no sense of romance left?
