Evolution of a Cute Gay Couple

Click to enlargeYou know, sometimes we're assholes. We're the first to admit it. And we're fully aware that our pissy stance on gay marriage -- in particular, our general fatigue with reading state-by-state gay marriage legislation news -- is a direct result of being privileged enough to grow up in a time when most of our other rights feel pretty secure. Since we're not looking to get married anytime soon, and since those who would really like to be married now have places they can go to do it, it feels like a matter of time before the rest of the dominoes fall, and we'd much rather spend our time making mixtapes and looking at porn.

But then we come across pictures like these, and read the simple and sincere pleas of an adorable gay couple like Jim Wilkinson and Dave Davenport who'd just like to make their 39-year (!) bond legal, and we think, fuck. Maybe we shouldn't be so passive all the time. (Truth be told we have marched for the cause twice.) The top photo was taken in 1970, when these two boys met at the ages of 20 and 23. The middle photo taken in San Francisco in 1979, and the bottom photo in Seattle in 1995. They haven't updated their website in a few years, so that seems to be most recent pic available, but it would appear that they are still together and still in love.

It almost makes us want to carry sign next time. But until then, we'll just enjoy their mustachio'd hotness circa 1979.
