This Weekend In NYC

We're not one to miss a good party so you can count on us to make an appearance at the Tubway reunion in NYC this weekend.  For those of you who may have missed the shenanigans when it ran as a weekly party, here's a little refresher:

Tubway was a party spawned from the infamous party Mr. Black.  It was a night whose musical format originally centered around deep soulful House music past & present played on an amazing sound system in an old, small, dark basement setting.  (get a glimpse)

This Sunday the original members of Tubway reunite at Hanky Panky in the East Village.  Music by DJs Nita Aviance and Gant Johnson, hosted by Milan (aka Dwayne Milan) of RuPaul's Drag Race, One-Half Nelson, and Roze Black.  Event page here.  [via Gayletter]

Out Picks Best Gay Bars, Fails As Usual

Poor Out magazine.  Poor, poor Out magazine.  When they do sh*t like this do they actually visit the places they rank or do they flip through the Gay & Lesbian section of Frommer's?  While completely ignoring cities like Boston and New Orleans, they still manage to choose the worst of other major cities (Badlands in SF?  Really?).  On the other hand, if they didn't continue to produce these tragic lists year after year, we'd have less to complain about.  And complaining is what makes us happiest.  [Out]

Beloved NYC Gay Bar Set To Close

This makes us sad.  Pieces, the Manhattan gay bar operating for 18 years and known for it's karaoke, cheap drinks ($4 Long Islands!), and seasonal over-the-top decor, has been denied its liquor application over complaints of noise, outdoor smoking, and "sex acts in doorways."

The Christopher Street hangout, which was hoping to move to a new location a few blocks over when their current lease runs out, was denied a liquor license by the Community Board.  Despite a petition to keep it open, as well as some heartfelt press coverage by the Village Voice, opponents of the establishment raised concerns over late-night noise and increased street traffic if the bar moved to 8th Street.

The bar was also known for its charity events, drag shows, and liquid brunch.  We had some gay ol' times at Pieces and will definitely remember it fondly.

Where to Go In Your Squarecut Swimsuit on a Sultry Sunday In NYC... If You Have Abs

Allegedly, the best place in Manhattan to walk around with a boner in your boy shorts is the new Sunday Shark! poolside party on the rooftop of The Standard.  It's a Sophia Lamar/Erich Conrad event which means excess faggotry, and Michael Musto hates it which is the best review you can get.

R.I.P. Mr. Black, AGAIN

2009 took the lives of Michael, Farrah, and Patrick, as well as truly cool NYC venues The Hose and now, Mr. Black. When it comes to nightlife, everything comes and goes, but these were places where a semi-alternative faggot -- or just someone who liked good music -- could always go and have a good time.

Josh Sparber over at Twerking informs us of the sad news that Mr. Black has shuttered again, for like the fifth time. But the tiny light at the end of the tunnel is that Stuart Black is eyeing Monkeytown in Brooklyn as a possible new venue, code name Mr. White. Until then, Lady Fag, The Ass, and One Half Nelson need a new Friday haunt. [Twerking]

Economic Slump in NYC Leads to More Gay Lap Dancing

Photo: Nikola TamindzicAs Michael Musto is reporting today, Ocean Wednesdays at Splash in NYC features a little something new "in the absence of the WPA": slutty gay rentboys/strippers aggressively offering lap dances to any patrons in a seated position downstairs. One even showed all his goods to a prospective client as a sales tactic -- one familiar to streetwalkers throughout the ages. Yes, gents, Generation Y (a.k.a The Show-Me Generation -- copyright Le Fag) is making us proud.  In these tough economic times, when half of these boys are probably unemployed, college-educated graphic designers or similar, they are stepping up their games and making a little cash the old-old-fashioned way. Almost brings a tear to our eye.

New York Is Burning: Pics from a House of Xtravaganza Show Ball in NYC

Photo: Homo-NeuroticWe've always wanted to attend one of the balls featured in Paris Is Burning, and this week NYC fags got a chance to see a show ball by the House of Xtravaganza at The Box. Tuesday nights at the Lower East Side venue have been a grab bag of gay goodness, with burlesque performers, drag queens, etc. But this week featured a special event hosted by the House of Xtravaganza and featuring a lot of vogueing and crazy, jumping splits by members of the Houses of Ninja and Karma as well. Color us jealous.

The show was hosted by Princess Xtravaganza, and ball performers were judged by a panel including Justin Bond, Ana Matronic, and Joey Arias. See a few pics after the jump and a bunch more at Homo-neurotic. Also, a famous clip from Paris Is Burning.

Tonight in SF & NY: Booty Call's 2nd Bday and Levi Johnston at The Box

As the Le Fag Bar & Party Guide reminds us, tonight is the night Daniel Nardicio unveils his latest piece of rough trade, Levi Johnston, at an event in his honor at The Box in NYC.

It's also the 2nd Anniversary of Booty Call, the photo-centric Castro party that has been bringing lots of hot boys out to dance to lots of great music on Wednesday nights. Weekly parties are kind of a rarity in San Francisco, and we congratulate impresarios Juanita MORE! and Joshua J on keeping this shit fresh and fashionista-friendly for two not-so-straight years.

NYC Bar The Hose Suddenly Closed :-(

Photo: Shutterbug for Homo-NeuroticHomo-Neurotic brings word of the closing of one of our favorite East Village bars in NYC, The Hose. It seems to have something to do with the lease. A vigil/celebration will be held on the sidewalk outside tomorrow (Friday) night. We feel for all the NY gays who loved this place and who were planning to attend tonight's Muppets Take Judy pary, and now we have to adjust the Le Fag Gay Bar & Party listings page accordingly. The NY Press' Gerry Visco has some more details. *Sniff*
