Martha Wash to Headline Umpteenth Pride in Oakland, With Chaka Khan

Chaka, you've met Martha...We thought Pride season was over, but gay festival mainstay Martha Wash, who's been earning her meal ticket aboard Pride floats for the better part of the last two decades, will be joined by even bigger diva Chaka fucking Khan at this year's Oakland LGBTQ Pride (you know they've got a lot of lesbians over there when they throw in the Q). The fest happens on Sunday, September 5, right after church, and the sissy boys from all over the Bay should be in attendance. [East Bay Express]

Painting by Timothy CummingsThough we at Le Fag try to avoid most of the shame spiral that is San Francisco Pride, we do enjoy when the rainbow flags go up on lightposts all the way up Market Street because it makes it feel like truly the gayest place on earth for a whole month.

And we also love Juanita More's after-Pride party, a must for the big gay holiday weekend which traditionally has been held around the pool at the Phoenix Hotel but this year moves to the Mission Rock Café. It's a party where twink and bear mix and mingle, young fashiony gays collide with jaded drag queens, and where the over-thirty set lets down their hair and acts like they're twenty again. There may not be hotel rooms to hide in this year, but the DJ lineup is pretty great, with the SPANK! boys from NYC, Will Automagic and Sean B., flying out along with Kim Ann Foxman of Hercules and Love Affair, as well as local stars Chelsea Starr, James Glass, and Derrick Love.
