San Francisco Drag Legend Vicki Marlane Dies at 76

One of Le Fag's favorite performers, Vicki Marlane of The Hot Boxxx Girls at Aunt Charlie's, passed away this morning at 7 a.m. She was 76.  Queerty and SFist have already eulogized her, and all we can say is that this lady (a.k.a. The Lady with the Liquid Spine) lived an amazing life, and she was reason alone to bring your mom to her wholly unironic drag show in the Tenderloin in S.F.  The New York Times even profiled her, albeit briefly, back in 2009, because she was like the oldest living transgendered performer in the country, and despite making the odd straight couple uncomfortable when she slithered up to them while lip-synching to Celine Dion, btich was pretty goddamn fierce. She will be dearly missed. We look forward to the many tributes in the coming weeks from a new generation of queens who doesn't know how easy they have it.

Vicki Marlane, Meet the Gray Lady

Photo: Heidi Schumann/NYTSan Francisco drag legend -- and at age 75 quite possibly the oldest living, continuously performing, transgender entertainer in the country -- Vicki Marlane still performs weekly as one of the Hot Boxxx Girls at Aunt Charlie's Lounge. It's one of our favorite dive bars and just this past Saturday we saw her do her shimmy and shake. Then on Sunday she made it into the New York Times as part of their Sunday Routines column, talking about what she does to unwind after a weekend of lip-synching to Celine Dion. We'll let the Lady with the Liquid Spine do the rest of the talking:

"I have a regular cabbie who is a real peach. He picks me up at 12:45 and gets me home by 1. I throw my wigs, high heels and everything on the floor. I take my makeup off with cold cream and baby wipes. Then I put a couple of frozen White Castle hamburgers in the microwave, put the television on, get my caffeine-free Pepsi and I sit down, unwind and eat my little baby burgers."
