AIDS-in-S.F. Documentary 'We Were Here' Shortlisted for Oscar

We don't mean to bring you down, Monday being enough of a drag as it is, but it bears mentioning that a documentary that's screened a few times in the major gay meccas this year, titled We Were Here, has been shortlisted for consideration in this year's Oscar nominations for Best Documentary Feature. This means it's among fifteen films selected by the documentary committee, and might be among the final five nominees. The film, directed by David Weissman with Bill Weber as editor and co-director, chronicles the early part of the AIDS epidemic in San Francisco from the perspective of a handful of people who lived through it. And even though we wish it had more archival footage from the era, it will make everyone cry. [Sadvocate]
